*sigh* The last episode of Brotherhood was just on [adult swim] and I find myself just as disappointed disgusted as the first time I saw it. that dreadful dreadful ending. :p Arakawa, I will never forgive you for doing this to FMA, to Ed, to us. (Yes, I can hold a grudge like nobody's business and no, I don't care if this is what Arakawa "intended to happen all long". :p)

I recorded it, not sure if I'm going to bother watching it yet or not. I'm content leaving it go at the last episode, as much as I hate that Hoho died. :(

I stopped the series at Ep 63--the only scene I've watched from that Episode That Induces Nausea is Roy at the very beginning--that 3-5 minutes was enough for me. Far as I'm concerned the REAL ending was not the timeskip but the omake Cow did when they reprinted the final chapter--which occurs a few weeks after they boys return home and Al receives the armor Roy ships to him and he decides he wants it melted down and used for automail and ends with Ed and Pinako cutting the weeds and they find the missing helmet with the bird's nest in it--and the cut to Hoho's soul greeting Trisha's and her telling him the boys will be fine. THAT was a perfect ending.

THIS I definitely could have lived with. I might have even found a way to make peace with the idea of Ed with no alchemy Who'm I kidding? No I wouldn't! LOL but that half assed we've-been-together-since-forever-but-now-we're-going-our-separate-ways-to-see-the-world-and-learn-all-there-is-to-learn-oh-and-btw-I'll-give-you-half-my-life-for-half-of-yours was complete bullshit. >.< I've seen a lot of bad anime in my life but this was the only time I've ever felt like the author was flipping the audience the bird.

It's been over a year and I'm STILL just as fucking furious as I was before. And frankly I don't give a rat's ass WHAT she intended. Don't you get sick to death of those jerks who scream and shout that Brotherhood is the ONLY FMA because 'this is what she intended".
Bullcrap. Bad writing is bad writing, and she was pandering, plain and simple. The original series ending was wrenching and beautiful and subtle, and if it were not for the Roy awesomeness and the face that his love for Maes is unmistakable and cannon, I would say bugger the whole manga crap.

"What Arakawa intended" and those who blindly worship the Cow can all kiss my ass! :) Cow fucked up plain and simple, end of story. Pandering is a good word for it. She was so damned and determined to have her oh-so-wonderful het ending, to have Ed and Winry together all else be damned, that she killed her own creation for it. What she did to Ed was unconscionable. Two years later and he's still trying to perform circleless alchemy? Yeah, like hell he doesn't miss it. :p Cow purposely drove FMA into the ground. How fucked up is that? That's why I like your fics Half Lives and Whole Lives. I mean, come on. If the best proposal Ed could come up with in TWO YEARS is that "half my life for half of yours" crap, they CLEARLY did not belong together. :p And as far as Roy goes, his love for Maes was so much more that was ever let on; something else that lends even more credibility to your fics! :)

Super late and random comment, but I just have to say how much I agree. It feels very lonely sometimes since I'm part of the FMA fandom and I don't like Brotherhood very much. The ending was kind of painful to watch. And really, taking away Ed's alchemy AND THEN killing Hohenheim too? What was the point of that?

I know what you mean. It can be very lonely being one of a handful of people willing to call out the end of Brotherhood for the bullshit ending that it is. Taking Ed's alchemy away was just adding insult to injury IMO, a definite spit in the face of the fans who've been loyal to this fandom for a lot of years now. As for me, I had sorta the same reaction to Ed losing his alchemy as I did at the end of CoS when Ed turned and walked back into the airship. It went something like this - O_O! WHAT?? *flail!* WTF ARE YOU DOING ED?!?! NOOOOOOOO!! *cry and vow never to watch it again* :)

As far as Hohenheim dying tho, I had kinda felt that that was going to happen long before the Promised Day battle ever got started. I never would have guessed tho that Cow would just have him wander off to die in front of Trisha's grave! EW! One, that was pure MORBID having Pinako walk up on a dead body like that and two, why not let Hohenheim sacrifice himself to get Al back? He knew he was dying, he knew he was responsible for Father's and the homunculi's creation, he knew his leaving was what set everything Ed and Al did in motion so why not let him be the one to clean up the mess? Cow dropped the ball plain and simple and, sadly, nothing will change it. Thank God for fanfiction! :)
