I never thought I'd say this...but while I've spent the bucks on the Original Series...I'll stick to my fansubs/.avi files of Brotherhood. I'd love to say that FMAB has enthralled me. It hasn't. There have been a few moments--like Roy's battle with Lust--that have been wonderful...but I find it just doesn't....it doesn't move me like the Classic series. I think BONES had a chance to do an incredible job and freakin' blew it. Poor pacing, lackluster animation (they can do better--watch "Wolf's Rain", which is stunning), a score that is bland...I'm not hanging onto every episode like I was with the original series--even the manga at times. I think in the end Brotherhood is a chance to cash in on a franchise. I'll save my money for replacement copies of my original series discs.
Yeah, most of Brotherhood is on the bland/boring side, the whole first half especially. That's Arakawa's fault tho. Her incessant need to put in jokes (such as they were) where none were needed really got on nerves after a while. Sorry but she's just not that awesome of a manga-ka and BONES did the best they could given what they had to work with. Not that I'm trying to justify anything BONES has done (they're in this strictly for the money after all, a profit by any means necessary), but you can only do so much with so little. :/
More than anything, I want to see the Promised Day battle in English. I get so frustrated having to read subtitles because I always feel like I'm missing all the action on the screen because my eyes are glued to the bottom of screen trying to keep up with the dialogue. Wanna know a secret? :) Sometimes when I watch Brotherhood (or any other sub only anime) I don't turn to volume up very much because it serves me no purpose. I focus so much on reading the subtitles that I block out the sounds. That's pretty bad huh? :) I might hear big stuff like explosions or yells or big dramatic music but for the most part it all just sails on by. (Ed would be proud of my ability to block out ambient noise while reading! LOL) Plus, being somewhat tone deaf, I can't really differentiate between the voices to begin with so it's all the same to me. So yeah, I'll buy it just to say I have it but I doubt I'll ever watch more than the Promised Day battle more than once. :)
